God of justice, aren’t you grieving
on the death of our brother Professor Jason Arday?
Come now to enquire of us as a society
why have we lost the soul of humanity
failing to honour the other as human beings like ourselves?
God of righteous anger, aren’t you angry
at the way scrutiny was weaponised against Prof. Arday
and the insurmountable pressure he faced in the public sphere?
Come now to call us to accountability,
expose institutional racism,
and teaching us to hold vulnerability with care, dignity and respect.
God of chaotic order, aren’t you troubled
that we as a society failed to support Prof. Arday
with love, compassion, dignity and gentleness?
Come now to teach us the values of our shared humanity
that we may recognise the real person behind every headline.
God of liberation, aren’t you resisting
every tokenistic representation that merely ticks a box,
and the cruelty of societal blaming black failure.
Come now and demand honesty in our commitments
calling us to search our souls, confess our privilege, defeat supremacy
and wholeheartedly and collectively strive for Black liberation.
God of compassion, aren’t you weeping
that we have lost a husband, father, relative,
friend and a colleague in Prof. Arday?
Come now to embrace them with your love and peace
through the company and solidarity
of people across the spectrums of life
to support them at a difficult time like this
and to make known that love is stronger than hatred.
God of reparation, aren’t you steadfast
in building a just and inclusive society for all
where we treat, receive and accept one another as we are?
Come now and raise millions more like Prof. Arday
who will inspire the world through their extraordinary gifts and contributions
to racial justice, education, equality and neurodiversity.
Come now, God of love,
come and change our world through our living and giving. Amen.
